Rhythm Simulator
Build an arrhythmia from its parts — set the atrial rate, AV conduction and ventricular response, and read the strip and ladder diagram that result.
Most rhythm teaching runs backwards: here is a strip, name it. This runs forwards. Set the atrial rate, choose how the AV node behaves, decide what the ventricle does with what reaches it — and the tracing appears as a consequence.
The ladder diagram sits alongside the strip, so the mechanism and its surface appearance stay visible together rather than being taught in separate sessions.
Using it in a teaching session
Start in sinus and change one parameter at a time. Lengthen the PR until Wenckebach appears, and let the room notice the grouped beating before anyone names it.
For VPCs, set bigeminy and ask why the pause is fully compensatory. Then switch to interpolated and ask what changed about the sinus node — the answer is nothing, which is the point.
The supraventricular tachycardias are best taught by mechanism here. AVNRT and AVRT can look similar on the strip; the ladder shows why they are not the same thing.
What the model simplifies
Intervals behave more predictably than they do in life, and the model does not attempt rate-dependent conduction, autonomic tone, or drug effect. It shows the logic of the mechanism rather than the variability of a real patient.
